Basic Online Marketing in Cobourg, Port Hope, Belleville and Trent Hills

Ask Yourself Some Questions

Basic small business online marketing in Cobourg, Port Hope, Belleville and Trent Hills, my local area, is pretty much the same as it is anyplace else on earth. As a business owner, you need to ask yourself a few questions about your current practices, identify a few objectives and then take some specific action.

These questions are universal for almost any business that involves interaction between a service or product provider and a consumer. How effective are your current marketing practices right now, today? Can you measure your results? What exactly are your customers looking for? Do you know how much you spend to get each new customer? How long will that customer stay with you before they move to someone else, move away or otherwise stop buying from you? How much revenue is that customer going to provide over the length of their relationship with you?

Questions You Need to Answer for Your Online Marketing

Here is a video from almost five years ago that covers some of these questions in a little over sixty seconds.

Do you ask new customers how they found you? If you do, great. Consider adding one little point in that question. Ask them “Exactly what were you looking for when you found us?” This question is important. Especially if they got your name from a friend or neighbour. Because they probably looked online first. If they found you through someone else’s recommendation, it’s probably because they couldn’t find you online. And THAT is why you need to pay attention to keywords.

Keywords for Online Marketing in Cobourg or Anywhere

Below is a short (6 minute) video that steps you through the process of finding out what keywords people are using when they look for your services. I apologize for the audio on this video. You will need to turn your volume up.

How do Directories Fit Into your Online Marketing?

Now that you have collected a bunch of different keywords, what do you do with them? One of the simplest things you can do is use them to describe your business in online directories. Online directories are places like yellowpages.ca, goldbook.ca, weblocal.ca, and your local municipal or county (or both) business directory. Didn’t know your municipality or county had an online business directory? Well, they do.

And if you describe your business in these online listings, using terms that people are using when they are looking for your products or services, then it is highly likely that some of these listings will turn up as search results. And that is what you want to happen. You may find that you are already listed in some directories, but more is better. Please pay attention to the instructions on how to list your business, making sure your business name, address and phone number show up exactly the same each time they occur.
