Over the last couple of years I have been running workshops on small business marketing in the Havelock, Campbellford, Warkworth, Hastings, Cobourg and Port Hope areas. You need to get found online if you expect the internet to have any impact on your business. I used an image at a workshop in Hastings, Ontario years ago that is just as relevant today as it was then:
The point being that if your billboard (or message) is on a dirt road nobody uses (or buried in the millions of pieces of internet real estate) it isn’t going to do you any good. In fact it represents wasted resources. You’d do better to stand on a street corner and hand out pamphlets.
I find that many businesses I talk to in Trent Hills, Havelock, Norwood or even Cobourg and Port Hope, think that simply having a website will somehow magically send a flood of customers to their door. Unless your website is optimized for the correct keywords and has other online locations pointing at it, you will essentially have the equivalent of that dirt road billboard. No one will see it.
So you need online content pointing to your website, or you need online content if you DON’T have a website.
I recently uploaded a 15 page guide to using free online properties to help you get found online, covering the easiest, most effective ways I could think of to establish an online presence.
